چکیده

Stealth navigation is a fundamental capability for a scout vehicle to e ectively perform reconnaissance missions. One component of stealth is the ability to plan paths that minimize visibility of the vehicle from target locations. This paper demonstrates a stealth planning system using visibility analysis on digital terrain elevation maps for path planning. Goal locations can be user speci ed or automatically constructed at the visibility boundary for RSTA operations. The second component of our stealth navigation system is the ability to control a vehicle to minimize exposure during RSTA operations in the presence of sensor measurement error, inaccurate terrain maps or a dynamic environment. The notion of visual stealth behavior, i.e. visual servoing to acquire and maintain a stealth position or trajectory is introduced as a mechanism for robust stealth navigation. Matching and tracking terrain features in the image space are identi ed as important pre-requisites for visual stealth behaviors. A method is described to track an important terrain feature in imagespace namely, horizon curves.

Interference with pulse oximetry by the Stealth Station™ Image Guidance System

Background A pulse oximeter is one of the most important monitors to save patients undergoing anesthesia and monitored sedation. The authors report a case of orthopedic surgery, in which interference of pulse oximetry occurred when using a Stealth Station™ navigation system (Medtronic Sofamor Danek, Memphis, TN). Applying a black plastic shield (Masimo Ambient Shield: Masimo Corporation, Irvine...

Towards Robotic Visual and Acoustic Stealth for Outdoor Dynamic Target Tracking

Covertly tracking mobile targets, either animal or human, in previously unmapped outdoor natural environments using off-road robotic platforms requires both visual and acoustic stealth. Whilst the use of robots for stealthy surveillance is not new, the majority only consider navigation for visual covertness. However, most fielded robotic systems have a nonnegligible acoustic footprint arising f...

Better Group Behaviors in Complex Environments using Global Roadmaps

While many methods to simulate flocking behaviors have been proposed, these techniques usually only provide simplistic navigation and planning capabilities because each flock member’s behavior depends only on its local environment. In this work, we investigate how the addition of global information in the form of a roadmap of the environment enables more sophisticated flocking behaviors and sup...

Pedicle screw placement with O-arm and stealth navigation.

Various navigation systems are available to aid pedicle screw placement. The O-arm replaces the need for fluoroscopy and generates a 3-dimensional volumetric dataset that can be viewed as transverse, coronal, and sagittal images of the spine, similar to computed tomography (CT) scanning. The dataset can be downloaded to the Stealth system (Medtronic Navigation, Louisville, Colorado) for real-ti...

Procedural Guard Placement for Stealth Games

Stealth game mechanics rely on a suitably difficult distribution of enemy observers, the placement of which is typically a manual process. Here we investigate an automatic process for placement of observer opponents. We use a Monte-Carlo approach to generate randomized enemy positions and motions and combine this with a stealth path-planning and analysis framework. This allows us to ensure feas...
